Event Detail Course Objectives

In the past decade, PCI treatment for CTO has achieved remarkable technical progress.
In 2005, CART technique was introduced as a systematic technique for passing CTO lesions by bidirectional manner. Also, new devices and various techniques have been developed one after another. As a result, the latest CTO PCI technique has been evolving into a more sophisticated therapeutic procedure in both the antegrade and retrograde approaches. According to data from Retrograde Summit Registry in Japan, it is now clear that the CTO PCI therapy has been safely enforced with a high initial success rate even in the facilities that do not always have a high volume practice. This data shows that CTO PCI therapy including the retrograde approach is no longer the treatment that specific experts can perform; it is maturing into a standardized procedure.
In 2015, the CTO Club had the largest number of participants from overseas ever. We believe that this is a proof that the interest of this CTO PCI field has been increasingly growing even overseas and our past activities were highly esteemed.
The current CTO PCI is not a complete therapeutic procedure yet. There are still some issues that need to be technically overcome such as challenging tough CTO lesions (including heavily calcified lesions, heavily tortuous lesions and long lesions), shortening procedure time and reducing the radiation exposure dose. On the other hand, the validity of the JCTO score that has been used until now and the academic verification for the long-term prognostic impact after CTO PCI are also important issues. The CTO Club will continue to challenge these issues from now on.
We will hold the annual seminar of the 17th CTO Club in Nagoya in June 2016. We look forward to seeing everybody in Nagoya.
